my return to the desert and an unexpected shift in a decade long dream

Two weeks and one day ago, I was driving along a desert highway in a rented shiny blue Nissan. Billy Preston’s Will It Go Round in Circles was streaming through the speakers, the twelfth song of one of my curated playlists tucked neatly inside a folder on Spotify titled Going West, Going Home.
